The 39 Steps,<\/strong><\/em> a 1935 British thriller film<\/a> directed by Alfred Hitchcock<\/a> and starring Robert Donat<\/a> and Madeleine Carroll<\/a>. The film is very loosely based on the 1915 adventure novel The Thirty-Nine Steps<\/em><\/a> by John Buchan<\/a>. It is about an everyman<\/a> civilian in London, Richard Hannay<\/a>, who becomes caught up in preventing an organization of spies called the 39 Steps from stealing British military secrets.
